Mockup

Another angle of the mockup
Task: design a new installation exhibit to replace the existing Raleigh timeline inside the Raleigh City Museum.
I wanted to create a sort of identity and presence for the permanent wall installation, rather than have it blend in with the surroundings. I used bright colors, large acrylic panels, and a backlit kick panel.
One of the largest challenges was to represent the growth of Raleigh over the decades. I wanted to visualize the population change in a consistent way, without having to adjust the scale. If I made the bar graph on the back wall short enough to accommodate the largest population data, the early years would be too short to see (fractions of an inch on the wall).
To solve this, I overflow the values greater than 100,000 into another column. This allows the early years to be visually compared with the rest of the timeline while maintaining scale relationship.
